Winter Weekender Event Raises $18,000+ for West Ham United Foundation

The yearly Winter Weekender has proved its worth once again by showing how the spirit of community-building can stand against the backdrop of football-nurtured passion to bring about a permanent impact. Held over a weekend in East London, the event raised more than $18k for the West Ham United Foundation to fund initiatives geared toward improving lives all over this part of the country.

A Celebration of Community and Giving

Winter Weekender gamified lots of different football challenges, and featured a few guest stars. Great things for everyone. They were able to draw young and old together to experience family activities- just for a worthy cause. Food stalls, live music, merchandise sales, charity auctions, the air became electrified and full of purpose.

Under this roof, in one weekend, the supporters, local businesses, and real West Ham United legends congregated. And in a very memorable mood for the weekend, yet also creating change within the community.

Behind West Ham United Foundation

The West Ham United Foundation has, for many years, believed in the social changes that come with the power of football. The Foundation makes its efforts in serving those most vulnerable with specific programs directed at education, inclusion, employment, and mental well-being.

Proceeds collected through the Winter Weekender will be directed into programs that support young people and impoverished families and those living in isolation. Part of the funds raised will support expanding the mental health initiatives and after-school support programs of the Foundation.

Joseph Lyons, Chief Executive of the Foundation, said the following concerning the community effort:

“The Winter Weekender is really a fantastic illustration of how football can bring people together. The generosity we’ve seen is really heartwarming, and the funds raised will go a long way in helping us continue our work.”

United by Players, Legends, and Fans

Players past and present of West Ham United were at the centrally staged Winter Weekender using a new dynamic to meet fans and join in the festivities, including signing autographs and leading youth training sessions.

Among the great “meet-and-greet” events attended by many, a Q&A panel that’s famous by its capacity to inform fans about players’ career and personal stories also drew thousands. A memory that was loaded to the hilt with all the emotional resonance created an affair to remember. Then again, one is reminded of the special kind of relationship that can exist between a club, its players, and the supporters.

Auctions and Donations Generate Victory

A silent auction of memorabilia from West Ham, jerseys signed by players, and unique experiences for fans raised significant money. A VIP match childcare package, a behind-the-scenes visit to London Stadium, and others drew significant bids.

Local businesses also contributed to the Winter Weekender by providing items, sponsoring events, and donating a percentage of their sales on the weekend. Their contributions indicated the interest the Foundation’s cause generated across East London.

Beyond the Weekend

It was just two days long, but its impact goes on through the year. It will help the Foundation to run workshops in schools, work on paths to employment for young people, and provide opportunities for children with disabilities to take part in sport.

The volunteers who were engaged in its organisation reminisced about it over the weekend with much pride. According to a long-time supporter,

“Every year, the Winter Weekender grows, not just in size but in heart. It is amazing to see our community come together for something bigger than football.”

Conclusion

Post another successful Winter Weekender, and West Ham United Foundation looks ahead towards the next one. It plans for it to even be bigger and more inclusive and aims to set new records while enlarging its positive footprint.

What the Foundation does will continue in its future. Winter Weekender is the live example of the great events that can happen through passion, purpose, and people. Football ceases to be a game; rather, it becomes something bigger that works for good.
