Kirby Smart, head coach of the University of Georgia (UGA) football team, provided an injury update on quarterback Carson Beck, who is dealing with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. The injury occurred prior to UGA’s recent games, though Smart emphasized that it is not a serious concern. Beck has participated in practice despite the injury, and Smart reassured reporters that the quarterback is fine. He described the injury as common among players, especially since the team has dealt with several similar sprains this season
Beck’s shoulder issue did not seem to impact his performance significantly during the team’s tight 13-12 win over Kentucky, where he completed 15 out of 24 passes for 160 yards. Although it was the lowest yardage output for Beck in his 16 games as a starting quarterback, Smart praised his leadership, poise, and ability to make critical plays when needed. Beck’s resilience in difficult situations, such as leading the team during the final drive of the game, has been recognized by both his coach and teammates
UGA hopes to have Beck fully healthy as they move forward, although Smart acknowledged the need for improvements in protection and playcalling to help alleviate some of the pressure on the quarterback
